The Ndere Troupe’s Newest Prize

Congratulations to our AfA partner, Uganda’s folk music group Ndere Troupe for their win at New York City’s 2009 SUNSHINE Awards!

Ndere Troupe was nominated in the Awards for Contribution to the Performing Arts together with five other notable artists that include ton Becket Cyrus of St. Vincent, in the Caribbean; Elw…in McQuilkin a.k.a Black Wizard from Grenada; calypso maestro William Elcock of Grenada; Armando Savaranga Crisanto of La Ceiba Atlántida, Honduras; and Eulalia Bernard-Little who hails from Costa Rica.

The Ndere Troupe, a cultural development organisation, founded in 1984 by its current director Rwangyezi Stephen, was nominated because of its excellent Ugandan Traditional Music that consists of over 40 different dances, hundreds of songs and a great variety of instruments. Artfully AWARE looks forward to working together with this fantastic ensemble.
